“On behalf of all of us, I would like to pay my own tribute to your lifetime of selfless service,” the 73-year-old said in a speech to “Your Majesty Mommy” in London on Saturday night. The Queen was not present at the spectacular event for her 70th throne anniversary with numerous music stars and other celebrities at Buckingham Palace. “The scale of the celebration tonight – and the radiance of warmth and affection throughout this anniversary weekend – is our way of saying thank you – to your family, to the country, to the Commonwealth, to the whole world, really,” said Charles. The future king emphasized that the Queen’s strength and stamina would be greatly missed at the “Platinum Party” in central London. He also mentioned “my dad”, Prince Philip, who died in 2021, who will be missed very much and who would certainly have enjoyed the evening very much.
“We commemorate everything you have done to make the Commonwealth such an important force for good. You continue to make history,” said Charles. “Your Majesty, you have been by our side through difficult times. And you bring us together to celebrate moments of pride, happiness and joy.” The Queen laughed and cried with them and was always there for 70 years. “You promised to serve your whole life and you continue to deliver. That’s why we’re here. That’s why we’re celebrating tonight,” said Charles. “Therefore, Your Majesty, we say thank you.”
The two and a half hour spectacle in front of Buckingham Palace was the highlight of the third day of the anniversary celebrations. Among others, the British pop star Rod Steward, the US singer Alicia Keys, the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and the British bands Queen and Duran Duran performed. About 30 members of the Royal Family were among the 22,000 spectators at the concert.
