“Starnacht am Neusiedler See” canceled for safety reasons

On two evenings, on Friday and Saturday, the “Star Night at Lake Neusiedl” took place in Mörbisch. Presented by Barbara Schöneberger and Alfons Haider Hit stars like Maite Kelly, Beatrice Egli, Andreas Gabalier and Die Seer perform their best hits on the lake stage. The Saturday evening show was broadcast live by ORF from 8:15 p.m., however: The weather gods did not play along. A strong thunderstorm blew up over Burgenland and forced those responsible to interrupt the live show. The Tyrolean pop singer Petra Frey was singing “Queen of the Night” when Alfons Haider entered the stage and asked the audience to leave the premises. “We have to stop briefly for safety reasons,” explained the moderator and added: “It also has something good, then you don’t have to water the garden anymore.”

While the viewers went out on site, the ORF showed the recorded dress rehearsal. “Abort in Mörbisch – you see the dress rehearsal from the evening,” the broadcaster faded in. After half an hour, the 6,000 spectators in Mörbisch were able to go back to their seats and the show continued with the performance of Giovanni Zarella. “It was close. It’s like a second life given,” moderator Barbara Schöneberger joked. You’ve always wondered why you record a dress rehearsal. Now she knows.
