the celebrations close in London with the absence of the Queen

Isabel II, 96 years old and with increasing mobility problems, appeared on the first day to the delight of her admirers, but was absent Friday and Saturday after feeling “some discomfort.”

The health of the monarch has been a concern since doctors ordered her to rest in October and she had to spend a night hospitalized to undergo medical tests.

Since then, she has been replaced in increasingly relevant acts by her son and heir, Prince Charles, 73, in a progressive transfer of monarchical functions by a sovereign determined not to abdicate.

But the transition raises doubts, due to the popularity of Carlos, much lower than that of his mother, and the crises and criticism suffered by the monarchy, from the estrangement of Prince Enrique and his wife Meghan to the attacks on the colonial and slave-owning past of the British Empire.

In a gloomy social context, with soaring inflation that imposes hardship on many Britons, the division caused by Brexit and the 180,000 deaths caused by the pandemic, the jubilee celebrations appear as an escape valve for the population and an opportunity for the royal family to seduce her again.

In the afternoon, the royal cavalry will drive the queen’s golden carriage, drawn by eight horses and used since the 17th century to carry the British monarch in his coronation and jubilee ceremonies, to Buckingham Palace.

It is worth specifying and as seen in the video, Queen Elizabeth recorded a video having tea with Paddington Bear, one of the favorite characters in English literature, to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee on her 70th birthday on the throne.

Divided into four parts, the parade, in which some 10,000 people will participate, is conceived as a musical and theatrical representation of the transformation of British society since the arrival of the queen to the throne at the age of 25 in 1952.

It will be opened by representatives of the British Land, Sea and Air Forces accompanied by military personnel from other Commonwealth countries, from Canada to New Zealand via Australia, Pakistan, Jamaica and Sri Lanka.

Representations of popular culture from the last 70 years will follow, street theater performances and dancers who, from the Indian tradition of Bollywood musical films to the carnivals of the British Caribbean, will show the diversity of the country and its former colonies.

The tribute will end in front of Buckingham where the national anthem, “God Save the Queen” will be sung and pop superstar Ed Sheeran, 31, author of hits like “Shape of You” will sing his song “Perfect” in honor of the longest-lived monarch the country has ever had.

But first, and if the heavy rains announced for Sunday allow it, up to 10 million people must participate in thousands of picnics and neighborhood meals planned throughout the United Kingdom.

More than 70,000 people had signed up for organized lunches in towns, cities and villages, with families, neighbors and entire communities willing to come together to share food and drink.

Many will prepare the dessert chosen by contest, among the proposals of more than 5,000 amateur chefs, to commemorate this “platinum jubilee”.

It is a “trifle” that superimposes layers of lemon sponge cake, citrus jam, pastry cream, cookies, candied orange and pieces of white chocolate in a large glass container, created by Jemma Melvin, a 31-year-old advertising copywriter from the northwest of England.

In Windsor, a town about 40 km west of England in whose castle the queen resides, an attempt will be made to break the record for the largest picnic in the world. If the British weather does not object.
