The Olympic bronze medalist in the discus throw had his best attempt at 65.64 m. The Slovenian Kristjan Ceh won with 69.68 ahead of Olympic champion Daniel Stahl from Sweden (67.16), the Australian Matthew Denny (67.07) and the Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius (66.53).
Flight cancellations, rebookings, delays – all of this ended for Weißhaidinger for the time being with the fact that an intermediate sprint in Paris to the gate of the connecting flight to Rabat was not crowned with success. So the night flight to Marrakech was booked and the bus took us to Rabat, 300 km away. There, however, the driver had gone to the wrong hotel, but thanks to the free bed, Weißhaidinger was allowed to lie down at 3 a.m.
After two meetings in fifth place, Weißhaidinger now has nine points to his credit; he finished fourth at the start in Birmingham. The six best athletes after four stations will take part in the final at Zurich’s Letzigrund in early September. Ceh is 16 points ahead.
On Thursday, the 30-year-old Weißhaidinger threw a new Austrian record (69.11 m) in Eisenstadt.
