Party weekend in Lignano: “No excesses, no injuries” at Pentecost

“Thanks to our preventive measures, we were able to avoid excesses. There was a party atmosphere in the city, but it was celebrated with moderation,” Fanotto said.

A few youths were under medical treatment for drunkenness and a dozen penalties for administrative offences: the feared weekend of wild parties on the streets of the city center was generally peaceful. “By 7 a.m. the city was completely tidy, you won’t find any rubbish on the streets. The bars worked with us and didn’t sell any drinks in glass bottles or cans. At midnight the music stopped,” explained Fanotto, mayor of the city for ten years seaside resort.

Police officers from Carinthia on duty

70 security forces ensured that the weekend went smoothly, and there were also a few police officers from Carinthia and South Tyrol who were able to communicate with the Austrian guests in German. “Everyone did their part and fortunately everything went well,” said the mayor.

In the years before the corona pandemic, there had always been excesses at Pentecost, in some cases young people were punished with a two-year city ban. “Such incidents did not occur this year. This is certainly also due to the penalties of up to 5,000 euros that threaten violations of the rules,” said Fanotto.

After the Pentecost weekend, the summer season in Lignano is now in full swing. The booking situation in the hotels makes the tourism industry optimistic. The Adriatic town is hoping for a long summer season, which could last until October thanks to nice weather.
