The 42-year-old Pole drove his car on the A1 in the direction of Salzburg shortly after midnight – according to his own statements, at excessive speed in heavy rain. Permitted at this point are 100km/h in the rain/wet. In the Oberwang area, he left the road due to aquaplaning, slid along the embankment almost parallel to the road, brushed a staircase to the escape door and came to rest on the roof in the right-hand lane.
Luckily, a following driver noticed the almost unlit vehicle lying on its roof early enough, was able to stop in time and secured the scene of the accident. He then informed the emergency services. The accident driver was taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck with injuries of an unspecified degree.
