2,240 new infections and one more death reported

On Tuesday, the ministries reported 2,240 more cases within 24 hours. This is below the average of the past seven days – 2,768 more infected people were added every day – but significantly above the value a week ago. Last Tuesday, May 31, the authorities reported fewer than 2,000 new infections with 1,903. The seven-day incidence rose to 215.7 cases per 100,000 population.

Last Tuesday, the incidence was 164.6 per 100,000 inhabitants. The average number of new infections in the past week was also significantly lower, at 2,112 cases on May 31.

On Tuesday there were 36,629 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 503 more than the day before. A week ago there were 34,594 confirmed active cases.

Another death has been registered since Whit Monday. There were 23 Covid deaths in the past week. According to ministry figures, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,675 lives in Austria since it broke out. AGES already reported significantly more on Monday with 19,950 deaths. Exactly seven weeks ago, the Ministry of Health reported thousands of deaths, which are still not shown in the federal state figures.

479 infected people had to be treated in the hospital on Tuesday, 22 more than on Whit Monday. In a weekly comparison, there was an increase of four patients. There were 42 seriously ill people in the intensive care units on Tuesday, three more than on Monday. There has been a decrease of one patient since last Tuesday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 4,271,517 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,216,213 people are considered recovered.

The increasing number of infections is also reflected in the tests. A total of 42,590 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 38,187 were meaningful PCR tests, 5.9 percent delivered positive results. In the past week, an average of more than 101,000 sensitive PCR analyzes were carried out every day. The positive rate was 2.7 percent.

More and more people in Austria are letting their vaccination certificates expire. A total of 90,830 lost their validity in the past week. Vaccination fatigue is also reflected in immunizations. Austria-wide 214 vaccinations were carried out on Monday, at least three of them were first bites. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,829,183 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 5,775,134 people and thus 64.3 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination.
