Hundreds of onlookers and eight boat teams made the 20th Boatmania of the FH Upper Austria on the Steyr campus in perfect summer weather on the banks of the Steyr a festival for the city. The creative boat ideas on the subject of “heroes of childhood” inspired the audience in the weir ditch. Students of the FH degree program “Controlling, Accounting and Financial Management” won the much coveted title of the most original and funniest water vehicle in the public voting with their boat “Master of Magic in Business” with the passengers Harry Potter and Co.
Costumed Gauls, Maya the Bee and superheroes from film and television were admired and cheered by the spectators down the Steyr to the finish at the University of Applied Sciences. “Boatmania is one of the event highlights of every summer semester. This event has also become well known nationally and attracts numerous visitors to Steyr every year,” says FH Dean Heimo Losbichler. “A big thank you also goes to all our helpers and sponsors. Without them, Boatmania would not have been possible,” adds Viktoria Zeirzer, ÖH campus officer in Steyr.
Enthusiastic about the construction, the creative implementation of the motto and the show by the boat crew, the audience voted the Harry Potter-related apprentices the winner of the competition. The boat “Beeriokart” from the FH degree program International Logistics Management came in second this year. Third place went to “Maja auf der Steyr” from the Radiology Technology course at the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences.
