Yesterday, ÖFB team manager Irene Fuhrmann kicked off the first of two training camps in Bad Tatzmannsdorf to prepare for the women’s European Championships in England. On July 6, Austria will kick off the finals in the opening game against the hosts at Manchester’s Old Trafford Stadium. The other opponents are Northern Ireland (July 11) and Norway (July 15).
“Even if the past few weeks have been extremely demanding, the anticipation for the European Championships is slowly increasing,” said Fuhrmann. She has to name the EM squad on June 26th. “It’s not like I already have 23 players in my head. I consciously keep everything open because so much can still happen.” Record team player Sarah Puntigam is not yet in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, she is missing because of her late end of the season, as are Maria Plattner, Julia Hickelsberger-Füller and Jasmin Eder.
Three friendlies before the EM
Fuhrmann nominated 26 players for the training camp. Goalscorer Nicole Billa joins the team later because of a flu infection. With captain Viktoria Schnaderbeck (ankle) and Laura Feiersinger (foot) further pillars could fail in the first European Championship friendly on Sunday in Wiener Neustadt against Denmark (1.30 p.m.). It is also unclear whether Virginia Kirchberger, substitute goalkeeper Jasmin Pal, Katja Wienerroither and Stefanie Enzinger can collect minutes after their long-term injuries. On June 22nd, the opponent is in the southern city of Montenegro, before the EM dress rehearsal in Belgium on June 26th.
