The events took place near the Memorial Church, an emblematic monument in the western part of the German capital, located in one of the busiest commercial arteries in Berlin, the Kurfürstendamm.

The place was the scene of the attack perpetrated in 2016 against a Berlin Christmas market, an event that resulted in twelve fatalities. Anis Amri, a Tunisian citizen who had claimed asylum in the country, rammed a truck into the square in front of this church, near the main shopping street in the west of the German capital.

The newspaper bild reports that the arrested man was driving a Renault car while the German news agency, the DPA, assures that it could be a truck.
