EU provides Ukraine with another 205 million euros

“With these funds, our humanitarian partners are providing food, water, medical care, shelter, protection and cash assistance,” EU Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarcic said during a visit to Ukraine on Thursday.

They are working closely with the Ukrainian authorities to ensure that the aid from the EU member states meets the constantly changing needs, it said. So far, more than 700 million euros in EU aid have been made available in the course of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine – 13 million of which, according to the EU Commission, are earmarked for projects in neighboring Moldova. In addition to financial aid, the 700 million euros also include material aid from EU countries – including first aid kits, food, protective clothing, fire engines and mobile hospitals.

In the neighboring countries of Poland, Romania and Slovakia, logistics centers have also been set up to distribute deliveries more quickly, it said. A medical evacuation plane was also provided to transfer patients in need of urgent medical care to European hospitals. So far, more than 500 people from Ukraine have been transferred to European hospitals – including to Austria.

According to the United Nations, around 16 million people in Ukraine are in need of humanitarian aid. More than 14 million people have already had to leave their homes – almost 7 million of them have fled to neighboring countries.
