Costs are also increasing for the Mauthausen Danube Bridge

Despite the corona wave, the planning for the new Danube bridge near Mauthausen would proceed within the planned timeframe. The completion of the new bridge is still scheduled for 2027. After that, the supporting structure of the existing, 60-year-old Danube bridge will be removed and also rebuilt. This was confirmed yesterday by Upper Austria’s state councilor for infrastructure, Günther Steinkellner (FP). Most recently, the SP traffic spokesman in the state parliament, Tobias Höglinger, expressed doubts about compliance with the schedule.

“The planning documents have been prepared. The documents for the environmental impact assessment will be submitted in the summer of 2022. With regular planning jours fixes, we also inform the local and surrounding communities and record local knowledge for the planning,” says Steinkellner. However, the current price increases are also affecting this project. While the construction costs were last estimated at 137 million euros, it is now estimated at 168 million euros for the construction of the bridge and the two junctions on the B3 in Mauthausen and on the B123 in Pyburg (Lower Austria).

The agreed cost-sharing key with a share of 55% for the province of Upper Austria and 45% for the province of Lower Austria is also used for this section. The second section “Node Windpassing – Connection B1” in the municipality of Ennsdorf is the exclusive responsibility of the state of Lower Austria.
