A cozy outdoor dining area, hydrangeas in clay pots, plenty of shady spots, green and white checkered tablecloths and very friendly staff – the first impression of the Fischermandl restaurant in the Hotel Nöserlgut in Linz is great. You almost feel like you are at a wine tavern in Grinzing. It doesn’t matter that our reservation was forgotten: We get a good seat and leaf through the menu, which tells us that the vegetables here are freshly sourced daily from selected suppliers in the area. The restaurant has been run for ten years by Heidi and Helmut Lechner, who came to Linz from Oberpinzgau to take over the Nöserlgut – a house with history that was first mentioned as Noeserl Gueth in the 17th century. Today the estate is a hotel with the associated restaurant Fischermandl.
the Asparagus Cream Soup (4.90 euros) is creamy, tasty and is served with herbs and croutons. Even the little one Beef Tartare (12.90) comes from the kitchen richly decorated with a bit of asparagus, wafer-thin slices of radish and tomatoes. The beef itself is reasonably seasoned.
The baked ones Brie Eckerl (11.90) are also on a colorful bed of lettuce, but the most important ingredient is missing: the cheese. The waitress takes the “discontinued model” back, apologizes and brings a piece of cheese.
A lot of things are fried and breaded in the Fischermandl restaurant, including them asparagus rolls (14.90), in which ham, asparagus and cheese combine to form a tasty mixture. That fried chicken (15.50) has been removed, skinless and wonderfully juicy, the potato salad has gotten a little too much vinegar. The fresh ones fettuccine with creamy asparagus sauce, cress and tomato chutney (13.90) are unfortunately not really al dente. At the end it falls apart nougat mousse (7.90) on the tongue.
Conclusion: All dishes are spectacularly decorated and a real feast for the eyes. There is room for improvement with the pasta dishes, which are arranged in a somewhat adventurous manner.
