Steyr’s historic old town is the magnificent stage for a choir and music spectacle

At the premiere nine years ago, it was a sound experience that was unique in Austria: hundreds of singers who filled Steyr’s romantic inner courtyards and, at the end, as a joint choir, the historic center of the city with their singing. After a two-year Corona break, the singing club “Sängerlust – Steyr singt” invites you tomorrow, Saturday, to a powerful comeback with some innovations: For the first time, the seventh edition will be a choir and music spectacle on this magnificent stage, as Chairman Siegfried Gegenhuber reveals: “From 9.30 A total of 16 choirs with more than 300 singers, followed by the Steyr town band for the first time and finally the symphony orchestra with a total of more than a hundred musicians, will perform in the center of our town for thousands of visitors.”

The 16 choirs will start from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. They sing with free admission from Neutor to Engen Gasse and in various inner courtyards and squares in Steyr. Their repertoire includes all genres from folk music to rock and pop, hits, spirituals, classical to music from all over the world. “At 12 o’clock there will be the big final concert for all choirs at the Leopoldi fountain, which will be conducted by our choir director and music school teacher Julia Auer,” says Gegenhuber, who has been working with his team on the success of this spectacular music event since the turn of the year.

At 3 p.m. at the Neutor there will be a concert by the Steyr town band conducted by Johanna Heltschl with refreshing melodies from across the world of brass music. The symphony orchestra, conducted by Wolfgang Nusko, forms the conclusion for the first time from 7.30 p.m. Works by Joseph Haydn are on the program for the concert at the Neutor in front of the Innerberger Stadel. Soloist on cello is Othmar Müller.
