Paris Terror Trial: Life imprisonment demanded for Abdeslam

Salah Abdeslam was a key figure in the attacks, prosecutor Camille Hennetier said on Friday at the Paris Palace of Justice. Because of the immense seriousness of the crimes he is accused of, the sentence should be imposed without the possibility of a reduction in prison time.

Abdeslam is considered the only survivor of the terrorist command at the time. Hennetier said he presented himself as a soldier of the terrorist organization Islamic State and remained true to his ideology to the end.

In addition to Abdeslam, 19 other suspects have to answer in the mammoth trial that has been ongoing since the fall. The public prosecutor’s office demanded between five years imprisonment and life imprisonment for her. In addition, according to her, many of the accused should receive a temporary or permanent residence ban in France.

The trial unfolds the series of attacks of November 13, 2015. In the attacks, extremists killed a total of 130 people and injured 350 others. They massacred the Bataclan concert hall and shelled bars and restaurants in the east of the French capital. Three suicide bombers also blew themselves up that evening during an international football match between Germany and France at the Stade de France. IS claimed responsibility for the attacks.
