The reason: Family work in Austria is still clearly a “women’s affair”. This imbalance becomes clear once again in a study published in January. According to the Chamber of Labor, eight out of ten households have to get by without support from their fathers when it comes to family work. This means that only two out of ten men take childcare or maternity leave.
“Family life is not easy”
“Men still feel less responsible for it. Of course there are many fathers who get involved, but we’re a long way from a really fair distribution,” says Dieter Breitwieser-Ebster. The social and father worker from the Hausruckviertel now wants to contribute more to raising awareness on the subject in online workshops.
