Special skills are not necessary. “But practical common sense would be an advantage,” says Barbara Hofwimmer, the senior pastor of the Catholic parish of Vöcklabruck. “And if the person has a sense of humor as well, they’re a really good fit for us.”
The parish of Vöcklabruck is not only without a pastor. A sacristan is now also being sought for the Maria Schöndorf Church – one of the three Catholic places of worship in the district capital. The previous “caretaker of God” was a faithful soul for ten years, but now wants to have more time for her family again.
The employed sacristan is supposed to unlock the church on Sundays and public holidays, prepare everything for the service at 9 a.m. and ring the bells (by pressing a button). “And generally take a look at the church – for example at the floral decorations,” says Hofwimmer.
