Electric boat driver saved nine people from Traunsee

The so-called “A-boat” had sunk almost entirely because the bow hatch was not completely closed and therefore filled up with water very quickly, reports the Austrian water rescue service in a broadcast. When their lifeboats arrived, the 9-person crew of the distressed vessel (including the owner) had already been rescued from the lake unharmed by a passing electric boat captain.

The sunken boat was standing vertically in the water and the bow only protruded about 30 centimeters out of the lake. At this point, the Traunsee is about 15 meters deep. The A-boat was brought back to the surface by careful towing and brought to the slip station in Altmünster. The floating goods from the boat were collected and the fire brigade alerted to rule out possible environmental pollution from oil or petrol.
