A “summer of respect” for a better world

A “summer of respect” for a better world

Punctually at the beginning of summer on Monday, June 20th, the municipality of Schärding opens the “Summer of Respect”. Together with NGOs, social initiatives, schools, associations and volunteers, a festival is taking place for the first time, where special attention is paid to the topics of respect and successful coexistence. The starting signal is on June 20th at 6 p.m. at the town square in Schärding with a colorful programme. After the ceremonial opening by Schärding’s mayor Günter Streicher (SP), the town band will play. And young people also have their say: Pupils from the Schärdinger Gymnasium present their thoughts on the subject of respect as a poetry slam (literary competition with texts they have written themselves, editor’s note). The Schärding music school organizes the evening as the central mediator of this “respectful togetherness”. Three teachers, with and without a migration background, and the twins Sara and Sanaz Zaher from Iran will play their guitars this evening. Furthermore, the accordionist from North Macedonia, Anantas Dinovsky, and the Lower Austrian music teacher Jakob Steinkellner will be heard on his Styrian harmonica.

There is also a lot on offer in culinary terms on this evening in Schärding: visitors can taste Egyptian, Pakistani and African dishes on this evening. The Schärding world shop team serves fair coffee.

Profound discussion

At the “Summer of Respect” in Schärding, events and lectures are presented for four weeks that deal seriously and profoundly with the topic, but there is also plenty of joy and fun. This is ensured by creative and artistic evenings of encounter. “Respect is a central element in society. The many events that take place in Schärding during the project period make it easy to see how important the topic is to people,” says Tobias Gatterbauer from the events team.

“Cafe Firebird of Respect”

The first event of the colorful program will take place at Pro Mente Schärding on Thursday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The “Café Feuervogel” has been a weekly meeting place for Pro Mente in Schärding for over 20 years. Here we cook together, play, discuss and share funny and sad things with each other. On June 23, the team invites you to the “Day of the open house and garden” at Linzerstrasse 13. In addition to the presentation of artworks created there, the inclusion choir will also be serenading and there will be the opportunity to discover your own writing skills. The physical well-being is also taken care of.

Digital scavenger hunt in the city
