Admittedly, a Zille is not exactly the epitome of a modern emergency vehicle. But everyone who is familiar with fire engineering knows what this “watercraft” is capable of doing in flood operations. The Zille also takes you where other boats fail due to low water levels. Provided you know how to deal with it.

That’s exactly what the participants at the 60th Oö. state water defense performance competition in Niederranna. On the competition course on the Danube, they demonstrated the technical ability and physical ability to earn a bronze or silver badge. 869 Zillen crews from 122 fire brigades had registered for this in teams of two or as lone fighters.

The corona pandemic did not leave this competition untouched either, anniversary or not: compared to the pre-corona times, there were almost 400 fewer crews at the start. But that didn’t detract from the commitment of the participants. Especially since the Corona measures that were no longer available made team and camaraderie possible again. Something that is needed now more than ever.

Johannes Seiwald and Philipp Kern from FF Neuhaus-Untermühl won bronze in the general class in front of Lukas Burgstaller and Florian König (FF Landshaag). Third place went to Ludwig Hartl and Raphael Demel (FF St. Peter am Hart). In the silver competition for teams of two, Simon Peham and Michael Peham from FF Niederranna won, followed by Martin Allerstorfer, Josef Pichler (FF Landshaag) and Gerald Witti, Mario Schöngruber (FF Niederranna). Martin Margelik from FF Steyr was unbeatable in one. He won ahead of Johannes Seiwald (FF Neuhaus-Untermühl) and Christian Zopf (FF St. Florian am Inn). The Au/Donau fire brigade won the team ranking ahead of Landshaag and Niederranna.
