All green areas are “organic”: “Golden Hedgehog” for the city of Amstetten

AMSTETT. The municipality can now also have the plaque with the “Golden Hedgehog” nailed to the town hall gate. Housing Councilor Martin Eichtinger (VP) presented the highest award that can be harvested from the “Nature in the Garden” campaign to Mayor Christian Haberhauer (VP) and Deputy Dominic Hörlezeder (G) as City Councilor for the Environment.

The “Golden Hedgehog” is not an honorary title, but a reward for consistent work that must be proven. The communities that want to have the badge, which is not given lightly, must meticulously document their green space care, whereby only biological substances may be used for plant protection and fertilization. Likewise, the use of soil that still contains peat is taboo for communities that want to be the best at natural gardening. Hörlezeder recalled that a garden center without chemicals has been a tradition in the Mostviertelstadt for 20 years: “As a city, we have a role model role”, it is important to Hörlezeder that the public sector sets a good example. “Species protection has also become more and more important to us when it comes to green spaces,” noted Mayor Haberhauer. Eichtinger pointed out that green oases are becoming increasingly important as living space for city dwellers. The fact that the requirements of “Nature in the Garden” are implemented 100 percent when caring for them is a good side effect. (feh)
