The long Kürnberg Trail was a sure thing

30-year-old Anna Glack and 51-year-old Heli Kellerer, both from the Honeder team, are the winners of this year’s Top Sport Öhner Trail as part of the TGW Kürnberg races. With 1:18:54 hours over the 16-kilometer distance, which also included 340 meters in altitude, the fastest woman was only 47 seconds slower than the men’s winner yesterday. Kellerer finished the long distance in 1:18:07.

In the best weather conditions, the winner clearly relegated Irmi Kubicka and Kathrin Kaspareth to second and third place. In the men’s race, Thomas Falkner and Manuel Tisler were much closer to the winner, but Kellerer was 1:07 and 2:46 minutes ahead of the second and third place finishers.

Marlen Riegler secured the Jedermann Trail over six kilometers in 40:31 minutes, clearly ahead of Elisabeth Dobretsberger (42:23) and Barbara Wernick-Grill (43:23). In the men’s race, another runner from the Honeder team was in a class of his own: 32-year-old Christoph Schmalzer won in 26:43 minutes ahead of Andreas Kienberger (30:10) and Christian Scheinecker (32:22).

After a two-year break due to the corona virus, the Sportfreunde Linz organization team under Michael Schmolmüller had expanded the traditional Kürnberg races to include the Jedermann Trail in order to appeal more to the general public. That hasn’t quite worked out this year, but at least a start has been made. (rgr)
