In the act, which was held at La Casa del Pueblo, headquarters of the Febrerista Revolutionary Party (PRF), there were representatives of the parties Liberal Radical Authentic (PLRA, the main opposition party), National Encounter, Dear Homeland, National Crusade, Let’s do it, Party of A, Democratic Progressive, Broad Front, Christian Democrat, Paraguay Tekopyahu, Independent Patriots, Mopoco, PMPP, Despertar, Apytere Paraguay, Pueblo al Poder, Patria Nueva and Yo Creo, in addition to the local ones, among others.
There were also several of those who had already expressed their intention to fight for the candidacy: the deputy Sebastián Villarejo (Patria Querida), the former independent minister Soledad Núñez, the also independent Hugo Portillo, the liberals Martín Burt, Efraín Alegre and Hugo Fleitas and the deputy Kattya González (National Meeting).
Also present were Miguel Melgarejo, from the Coordinator of Victims of the Stroessner Dictatorship and leaders of the Movement of the Conquest and adhered by means of a note the Free Republican Political Current.
As announced at the meeting, the understanding will be presented on Tuesday before the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE).
Simultaneous internal elections of all parties are called for December 18 –also the hegemonic Colorado Party must go to internal- and one chance is that the new coalition resolves its formula with the national register.
The Colorado ruling party has already announced that it will question this possibility before the courts because the law prohibits the use of national payrolls to resolve internal issues.
It has not yet defined whether it will add to this space the Guasu Frontheaded by former president Fernando Lugo and who has already launched former minister Esperanza Martínez as a candidate, but from the future alliance it is discounted that she will be part of the game.
Although it is not resolved, it is likely that each force will have its own list of candidates for deputies and senators, although some sectors also seek unity for the legislative lists to avoid dispersion.
If everything goes according to plan, it will be the first time that the entire opposition goes together in search of unseating the National Republican Association -ANR, the official name of coloradismo- that governed the last 70 years, with the exception of the almost four years of Lugo as president, from 2008 to 2012.
