Two injured at Laakirchen Airfield

On Saturday afternoon, a small plane crashed into a field in the municipality of Laakirchen after an unsuccessful landing approach. The machine overshot the runway at Laakirchen-Gschwandt airfield and rolled over. Both occupants, the 28-year-old German pilot and his 26-year-old passenger, were injured when they fell into an adjacent field.

According to testimonies, the aircraft registered in Germany was headed for the runway too fast and too high and touched down too late. The pilot was unable to bring the single-engine propeller aircraft to a standstill, whereupon the small aircraft crashed into a field behind the runway and overturned. The pilot and his occupant were no longer in the machine when the alerted Laakirchen and Rahstorf fire brigades arrived. Rescue workers brought the injured men to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Gmunden. The damage to the aircraft is significant.
