On Monday afternoon, a truck loaded with 2,300 liters of heating oil had an accident on the North/Weinviertel Autobahn (A5) near Gaweinstal (Mistelbach district). According to the police, about 500 liters got into the ground. The investigations revealed that the vehicle was not marked as transporting dangerous goods and that the 79-year-old driver was driving without the appropriate training.
According to the state police department of Lower Austria, the truck came to rest on the side of an embankment. The 79-year-old was unharmed. The investigations also revealed that the driver had not carried personal protective equipment, the required documents or a fire extinguisher. According to the police, those involved in the transport – drivers, carriers, senders, shippers, packers – will be reported to the Mistelbach district authority for a total of 36 violations of the Dangerous Goods Transport Act. The soil contaminated by the heating oil was dug up and disposed of.
