Josef Haslhofer does not want the coming weekend to be understood as the start of a heat wave. “One can currently speak of this in Spain in particular,” says the meteorologist from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG). Temperatures there have risen to as much as 45 degrees in the past few days.
However, it is also getting hot in Upper Austria: At the weekend, the 30-degree mark will be clearly exceeded. “Sensitive people can have circulatory problems,” says Haslhofer.
Danger of thunderstorms increases
However, there is still time to prepare for this: today, Wednesday, it will be brightly sunny all day long with temperatures between 25 and 29 degrees. There are only a few clouds, the sky is blue in blue. Tomorrow’s holiday initially brings little that is new: midsummer, high temperatures – but also a high probability of thunderstorms. “The brisk westerly wind will pick up with the showers, and we’ll notice that on Friday,” says Haslhofer.
It begins in the south of the country overcast, individual rain showers fit into the cloudy picture. In the morning, however, the sun is still fighting back, and at 22 to 25 degrees those who are sensitive to the weather can catch their breath again. Because Saturday finally brings the first really hot day: the temperatures rise to 30 degrees, the risk of thunderstorms is low. On Sunday, midsummer will pick up again, but thunderstorms can no longer be ruled out with maximum temperatures of 33 degrees. Temperatures will drop again on Monday, signs of cooling are on the way.
