Step into the foam at the orthopaedist’s, take the footprint to the bandagist and then wait to see what he makes for you: this is how insoles are often made.

Achill & Sons, who recently opened their branch in Linz, work differently. Founder Clemens Haslinger, who has also been running a similar business in Vienna for ten years, explains: “First we do a gait analysis, then the pressure distribution when standing is scanned and documented.” Only then do you start adjusting the insole. For the Upper Austrian, it goes without saying that everything is explained in detail.

The special Jurtin insoles are removed while sitting on the non-weight bearing foot. The system insole technician takes the foot in his hand, brings it into the right position and then forms the insole from a plastic blank with an Alcantara surface. The customer can then take it with him. “You should set aside an hour for this appointment,” says Haslinger. The package, which costs around 200 euros, includes checks after six weeks and six months. The health insurance pays around 40 euros.

Sensible controls

Orthopaedist Michael Stöbich has a positive opinion of the method: “You can see immediately whether the foot can be corrected.” The check is also useful, says the doctor, who works in a team of experts for the lower extremities at the Deaconess Clinic in Linz.

“We see that many customers used to be used to insoles being uncomfortable, pressing or even painful. We don’t experience that with our insoles,” says Haslinger. The soft Jurtin soles are suitable for many problems. “However, we always recommend using other therapy options. The insole is only one component and does not replace the right training, for example,” says the entrepreneur from Windhaag near Perg.
