Sometimes like this, sometimes like that: In 1966 Toyota produced the first Corolla, since then the Japanese have been supplying the world market with different variants. Hatchback, station wagon, notchback – not all regions were supplied with all versions. And then in Europe it was renamed Auris. A slip that Toyota corrected in 2019. Now follows a big facelift.
Namely for the hatchback model and the station wagon touring sports. The notchback is left out, is not imported to Austria.
New: adaptive high beam system
The design update is unusually clear. The pattern of the radiator grille changes, as does the surround of the fog lights. And the alloy wheels get a more elegant look. Toyota installs new bi-LED headlights in higher equipment lines, and the adaptive high beam system (AHS) is used on the highest level.
Two new finishes complement the color palette: Juniper Blue and Ash Gray Metallic.
The fifth generation of the hybrid system helps with savings. The Japanese pushed the consumption of the 1.8 and 2.0 liter variants to 4.5 to 5.3 liters. As a result, CO2 emissions level off between 102 and 121 grams per kilometer. Both benefit from significant optimizations to the engine and electric motor, which generate more torque, more electrical power and greater efficiency. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 103 kW (140 hp) now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.7 seconds faster than its predecessor (now 9.2 seconds). The 2.0-liter engine has increased its output to 144 kW (196 hp) and only needs 7.5 seconds (–0.5 seconds) for the standard sprint.
A 12.3-inch instrument cluster is new on board, updates are now imported “over the air”.
The revised Corolla, including the GR Sport, will be launched on the Austrian market in spring 2023. Then there are also the starting prices. (Heb)
