– José Luis Felix Chilavert Gonzalez (@JoseLChilavert_) May 25, 2022
José Luis Chilavert, 56, began his career at Sportivo Luqueño in Paraguay and then defended the colors of Guaraní before landing in Argentina to play for San Lorenzo.
After a stint at Real Zaragoza in Spain, he arrived at Vélez in 1991, where he lived his most glorious time as a player. Between that year and 2000 he won four leagues in Argentina, the Libertadores, the Intercontinental, the Interamerican Cup, the South American Super Cup and the South American Cup Winners’ Cup. In that period he was chosen three times as the best goalkeeper in the world.
Weeks ago he was sentenced to a year in prison with a suspended sentence for having defamed the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez. Chilavert’s lawyer said the court decision is not an obstacle to his candidacy.
