Data highway on the Hague-Lies route

The former railway line of the Haager Lies not only connects the region between Neukirchen bei Lambach and Haag am Hausruck with the new, already very well frequented cycle path, but is also the new data highway for the region. By the fall, a total of 720 kilometers of fiber optic cable and the necessary empty conduits will have been laid, a route like that from Gaspoltshofen to Florence.

Well-attended information afternoons were recently held in Meggenhofen and Geboltskirchen, where 700 interested parties found out more about the project for faster internet. After two years of the pandemic with home office and home schooling, the visitors no longer asked the question “Why fiber optics?”, but rather “When are you coming to our settlement?”.

Ten different Internet Service Providers in the open network of the Upper Austrian Broadband provided information about their products.

The areas developed in the northern part of the former railway line include both town centers such as Weibern or Aistersheim and the supply of the less densely populated areas of the communities in the region (Meggenhofen, Gaspoltshofen, Geboltskirchen, Weibern, Hofkirchen an der Trattnach, Aichkirchen and Aistersheim). The expansion gives more than 3,300 businesses and households the opportunity to access gigabit-capable Internet with fiber optics right into their living rooms.

The first customers are already online and the funding project should be completed by autumn, and extension requests are being examined.
