Piglet transport stopped

A total of 118 reports were filed during key controls at the Spielfeld border crossing (Leibnitz district) on Wednesday, 20 license plates were confiscated and a driver’s license (due to drinking and driving) was taken away.

According to the police, however, the focus was on animal transport. A transporter that had loaded 750 piglets was also stopped. The plan was for this truck to reach its destination in Serbia in 29 hours – the legal transport time was therefore exceeded. According to the police, the animals were not housed properly, the temperature monitoring system was defective and the drinking water ran out. The driver, a 30-year-old Hungarian, was reported.

Another truck loaded with 33 calves and traveling from the Czech Republic to Egypt was also stopped. Here, the legal transport time of twelve hours was exceeded. The 55-year-old driver from Germany was also reported.
