The 24-year-old midfielder was poached by league rivals VfL Wolfsburg and given a contract until 2026, the clubs announced on Friday. Schlager moved from RB sister club Salzburg to VfL in 2019 and was under contract there until 2023. Therefore, the Lower Saxony received a rumored transfer fee of twelve million euros.
Schlager could succeed his compatriot Konrad Laimer in Leipzig. According to various media, the midfielder wants to leave the club. Laimer has been linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United for some time.
Schlager had to put up with serious injuries twice during his time in Wolfsburg.
