Urfahr’s companies broaden their horizons when it comes to recruiting new staff

The district of Urfahr-Umwelt continues to develop dynamically as a good region. If you calculate UU as a separate labor market district, it has the lowest unemployment rate in the country. A cheering message? Viewed only one-sidedly: The number of self-employed in the Guute region has now increased to 5461 active WKO members. Almost 13,000 people are employed in around 1,250 employers in the commercial sector – a whopping 43 percent more than ten years ago.

However, this development also has a downside, reports WK Chairwoman Sabine Lindorfer, that companies are now increasingly desperate to find additional workers. There are campaigns and projects for recruitment, but that’s not enough. “We still have to broaden our horizons in regional personnel recruitment in order to create long-term perspectives for our employers,” agree Sabine Lindorfer, head of the Economic Chamber, and Franz Tauber, head of the district office. That is why two new projects, “Good Practice” and “Good Inclusion”, were launched. This is intended to take account of the future focus “population development and skilled workers” developed at Strategy Day 2021.

“Good practice” is an elective newly developed at BORG Bad Leonfelden, in which companies and schools work together on a project basis, explains director Josef Enzenhofer. Regional companies set real tasks and support the school project team in the implementation. “So far we have had one project per year running. Currently it is about creating an advertising video in cooperation with the Raiffeisenbank. Due to the high demand from the companies, we are currently working on a possibility to cooperate with several regional companies at the same time can,” reports director Enzenhofer.

inclusion in the workplace

Participation and equal opportunities for people with disabilities are the primary goals of “Guute Inclusion”, a cooperation between the Guute initiative and the Diakoniewerk Oberösterreich. Karin Schaubmaier, regional head of work for the disabled in the Urfahr area/Engerwitzdorf, puts it in more concrete terms: “There are a large number of jobs that people with disabilities can take on. The spectrum ranges from looking after the shelves and simple service and kitchen work to messenger services or jobs in the shipping area to to green space maintenance and much more.” Initial experience confirms that there is added value for both sides, reports Schaubmaier. In addition to positive effects on the social skills of their own employees, companies with social commitment can positively shape their public perception.
