The heat phone is up and running again

This situation did not exist in Austria this weekend. “But one can certainly speak of ‘hot’,” said a ZAMG meteorologist. Because in some places, especially in the west, the 30 degrees were exceeded on Saturday. The Ministry of Health meanwhile put the heat telephone back into operation.

Temperatures could rise on Sunday, especially in the Innsbruck, Lake Constance and Rhine Valley area. If the hair dryer, which blows into the afternoon, subsides, 35 to 36 degrees are possible. The weather expert did not want to make a record forecast, “but then we are in the upper range for June”.

On the free hotline 050-555-555, experts give advice on how best to protect yourself from the stress of the high temperatures. “Health risks during hot spells can only be avoided by taking early precautions,” said Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens). The heat telephone is a prevention offer with personal information.

“The climate crisis is increasingly becoming a health crisis in many countries around the world. Heat waves and temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are being recorded earlier and earlier, including in Austria,” says Rauch. “What for some is associated with having fun in the pool and eating ice cream is a major health threat for many people – especially the elderly and people in big cities.” As the temperature rises, the cardiovascular system is put under greater strain, and the health risk should not be underestimated.

The heat phone is operated by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) on behalf of the Ministry of Health and can be reached around the clock in summer. Tips on how to behave can also be found in the information folder “Summer, sun, heat – healthy tips for the hot season”.
