On Sunday, Blinken congratulated Colombians on Twitter for having held “free and fair” presidential elections and stressed that Washington hopes to further “strengthen” the relationship with Colombia after Petro’s victory.
“We look forward to working with President-elect Petro to further strengthen the relationship between the United States and Colombia and move our nations forward toward a better future,” Blinken stressed in a statement issued last night by the US State Department.

In that tweet, the head of US diplomacy highlighted “the deep ties between both peoples, shared values and shared interests in democracy, security, inclusive economic prosperity and human rights.”
