Diplomatic sources consulted by AFP point out that none of the European foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg expressed opposition to granting the status of candidate country to Ukraine and Moldova.

For his part, French European Affairs Minister Clément Beaune said “a consensus is emerging.”

For Beaune, the debates on the enlargement of the European Union “should not call into question the European trajectory of the Western Balkans”.

Diplomatic sources consulted by AFP point out that none of the European foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg expressed opposition to granting the status of candidate country to Ukraine and Moldova.

Four countries in the Balkan region (North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania) are candidates for membership and are patiently waiting their turn.
