A day in fruity frenzy: cherry festival in Scharten

In Scharten, there is plenty to do during these months: the weather was good, in the orchards the branches are hanging down heavily from all the cherries. Numerous guests indulged in this abundance on Sunday at the Firlingerhof in the fruit-growing community at the big cherry festival, which was presented by the OÖN. “The weather was fantastic, you can tell people’s longing for the Schartner cherries,” says Horst Hubmer from the Firlingerhof.

The sweet fruit was worshiped in all its forms. In its unprocessed state, it was particularly popular with the youngest visitors. Producers from the region sold them in the form of numerous products such as jam and chutneys. The Gasthof Schartnerblick served them in pastries. And the Mistelbach Agricultural College served cherry punch. The culinary offer was heartily supplemented with specialties from the grill.

The program of activities also lived up to the motto. The visitors could compete in the long-distance cherry stone spitting. The Tiergarten Walding was also represented with a petting zoo. “Schartner Tanzmusi” and “The Vitamins” provided background music.

Rainer Silber, Managing Director of the Obst Hügel-Land Nature Park, was very satisfied that evening: “There was a lot going on, the festival is a great opportunity to present the Schartner cherry as a brand.”

The cherry harvest in Scharten is still in full swing. Thanks to the different varieties, it could last until the beginning of August. (vaba)
