Before the show was taped in March, he still felt like laughing. That almost got stuck in the throat of the Linz Neos councilor Georg Redlhammer when he appeared on the Austrian branch of the TV show “Bares for Rares” on Servus-TV that was broadcast yesterday. He didn’t get a dealer card because the two paintings by the artist Franz von Zülow (his parents’ heirlooms), which he wanted to sell, had been described as fakes by the expert 20 minutes earlier.
Already on the show, Redlhammer made it clear that he would get a second expert opinion. He has meanwhile obtained it from the art dealer Freller in Linz. The verdict: The two pictures are originals and together worth around 5000 euros.
For Redlhammer, in his own words, several things are clear: he should have taken the pictures to a specialist dealer such as a gallery, experts can also be wrong and TV shows are more entertainment than specialist programs.
