Set two fires at flea market dealers

Two fires broke out within a few minutes yesterday morning on Niederlaaberstrasse in Buchkirchen in the Wels-Land district. First, flames licked out of a metal storage container, shortly afterwards there was a fire in an apartment in the building across the street. Because both objects have the same owner, the police assume arson.

It is about a 59-year-old man who lives in a small rented apartment on the top floor of a former farmhouse and used the container to store things for flea markets. According to the police, when the fire department put out the fire, he was not at home but at a flea market in Haid.

The Buchkirchen and Mistelbach fire brigades were alerted at 6:37 a.m. and quickly arrived in the village of Niederlaab to extinguish the container. In the middle of the extinguishing work, a resident across the street suddenly called out the window that there was heavy smoke coming from the apartment in question. A rescue squad entered the home. This fire was also quickly extinguished. The damage should be considerable.

Fortunately, a fire station that is now closed and is right next to the container was not damaged. Police say the investigation is ongoing. Fire experts were already on the spot yesterday morning to start the surveys.

Farmhouse burned down

For reasons that are as yet unknown, an agricultural property also caught fire in St. Florian am Inn (Schärding district) on Sunday. No people or animals were harmed because the farm was already empty, according to the police. The building, mostly made of wood, was already fully engulfed in flames when the first Florian firefighters arrived in Oberhofen at 10:33 a.m. Five other fire brigades had to be alerted. But the building was destroyed by the fire. However, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. The heat took its toll on the emergency services. With more than 30 degrees, the fire-fighting crews had to be changed every 15 minutes in order not to overload the helpers.

The police also began investigating the cause of the fire in the Innviertel. Experts were commissioned with surveys.
