Friedrich von Thun is 80 – and remains busy

He still has a leading role in the ARD series “Rooms with Stables” and at the beginning of the year he appeared in the ZDF six-part series “The Palace”.

Friedrich von Thun was born in 1942 in Kwassitz in what is now the Czech Republic. In 1945 his family was interned there and fled to Austria in 1948, where he attended a boarding school in Seckau in Styria. After graduating from school, he studied German and theater in Munich and took acting lessons – his true calling, which he was able to live out from 1962 with his first role at the Munich Kammerspiele in the drama “Gewitter am See”.

The passion inherited

He has been on stage and in front of the camera for around 60 years. His appearances in series such as “Der Bastian”, “The Crimes of Professor Capellari”, “Der Bulle von Tölz” or alongside Senta Berger in “Die Schnell Gerdi” are well known. He also acted in countless films, in the Vietnam war drama “OK” and in the comedy “Helen, Fred and Ted”, which earned him the Bavarian Television Prize in 2007. Von Thun also made documentaries. Steven Spielberg hired him as SS-Obersturmfuhrer for the Oscar-winning Holocaust drama “Schindler’s List”. Thun inherited his passion for film and theater: his son Max is also an actor. Friedrich von Thun wants to enjoy his birthday to the fullest: “The older you get, the more consciously I celebrate my birthday – with friends and especially with my family.”
