The 33-year-old German steered his tractor around 1 p.m. on the L1003 coming from Ettenau in the direction of St. Radegund (Braunau district). The tractor’s oil line ruptured and the vehicle left an oil trail about 2.5 kilometers long. Without making any agreements or securing the scene of the accident, the driver parked the damaged tractor on a friend’s lawn. After that he drove to Germany and bought spare parts.
The oil leak was reported by an uninvolved motorcyclist via an emergency call because of the existing risk. Police officers followed the trail of oil to the farm where the broken tractor was parked and investigated the responsible driver.
The St. Radegund volunteer fire brigade and the Ostermiething road maintenance department then spent around 1.5 hours cleaning up the area. The driver is reported to the BH Braunau for several administrative violations.
