Since its launch in August 2020, reports of parties have declined by 44 percent annually, according to the company. Disruptive parties, events and gatherings with open invitations and “party house” accommodation remain strictly prohibited.
The rule that a maximum of 16 people are allowed to stay in one accommodation will be lifted. The new policy still provides for consequences for guests who do not follow the rules. These range from account suspension to complete ban from the platform, the company informed. In 2021, over 6,600 guests worldwide were banned from Airbnb for violating the party ban.
The background to the ban is the outbreak of the corona pandemic, which led to the closure of many bars and clubs or the restriction of opening hours and guest capacities, which in turn resulted in parties being moved to rented apartments. Therefore, in August 2020, the party ban was announced “in the best interest of public health”. The new, now long-term, policy was put in place to encourage and support respect for quiet in our community’s neighborhoods, Airbnb said.
