The Salzkammergut Clinic offers a last-aid course

Dying and death are among the taboo subjects of our time. It is not surprising that we find it difficult to accompany seriously ill and dying people. The Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck offers people who are confronted with the approaching end of a relative’s life a valuable support for the success of a competent and human support in the last phase of life with a “Last Aid Course”.

“When confronted with the approaching end of a loved one’s life, very few of us know how to deal with this oppressive situation. But end-of-life care is not science, but practiced humanity, which is particularly possible in the circle of family and friends,” says Christina Grebe, head of the palliative care ward at the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.

Course encourages and imparts knowledge

As a network partner of Last Aid Austria, the clinic is offering a Last Aid course for adults for the first time. This is aimed at anyone who would like to acquire knowledge and skills for caring for seriously ill and dying people. Participants are encouraged to be there for their loved ones in the last phase of life.

The four-hour course, taking place on the afternoon of July 19, is divided into four modules. “In the first part we talk about dying as part of our life, then about preventive options such as living wills. We provide information about symptoms and how to alleviate the suffering. At the end of our course, we show ways in which saying goodbye to a loved one can be good and humane for everyone,” Christina Grebe reveals.

Due to the limited number of participants, registration for the course is absolutely necessary. Registration by email to: helga.vormayr@ooeg.at or by phone at 05 055471-22371 (Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.)

The course fee is 20 euros.
