The 23-year-old Slovenian, who does not have a driver’s license, left Johann-Roithner-Straße in a car late Monday evening and drove into a garden fence. Witnesses saw him trying to get the car back on the road. When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the officials asked the driver, who was obviously drunk, for an alcohol test. However, this failed after four attempts.
The 23-year-old tried to convince the police officers that he was not driving the car, but just going for a walk, when an unknown person gave him the vehicle keys and asked him to remove the car from the scene of the accident. The young man was asked to come to the police station to clarify the matter. He then fled on foot, but was caught after a short pursuit.
As it turned out, the car belonged to a 20-year-old friend of the Slovenian. He had started her car after a visit without permission, the young woman told police. At the office, the 23-year-old then confessed to the facts.
