The retired lathe operator Josef Hinterleitner can not only tell his grandchildren about a masterpiece in his life, he can also give it to them as a toy. The well-known German Ravensburger Verlag has now published a landscape photo of the club member at the Neuzeug photo club of friends of nature as a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
Hinterleitner can still well remember the recording of the Schiederweiher, which was crowned with first prize by the readers of the station magazine after a competition by “Servus-TV” and then published as a result of a cooperation with Ravensburger. The man from Sierning had set up his camera with a tripod at the weir in Hinterstoder early in the morning so that the water on the photo in front of the beautiful mountain backdrop really flows with a long exposure time.
Actually, as is correctly noted on the toy box, his wife Andrea Hinterleitner owns the image rights. The reason for their copyright is that Hinterleitner submitted two photos and needed a different name for the second mention. Which doesn’t mean that his wife doesn’t know anything about photography. “We share the hobby,” says Josef, “she takes just as great pictures.”
The “competition photographer”, as he calls himself, downloaded the pictures of the Schiederweiher from his digital archive. When Ravensburger called and announced that he had won the contest, he was not overwhelmed. After decades of camera work, he has a nose for what a jury and the audience like – “and you have to master the technical stuff anyway”. The Hinterleitner couple have traveled extensively by winning photo competitions. The huge barbecue stove, which is covered with a tarpaulin in the conservatory, is also a first prize in a competition. “The fact that a lot of people play with a picture of you is something special,” Hinterleitner comments on the puzzle.
Advertising for tourism
Doris Kornitzer, press spokeswoman for Ravensburger GmbH, says that the Austrian edition with Schönbrunn Palace, Großglockner High Alpine Road, Hohensalzburg Fortress and now also the Schiederweiher is a bestseller: “The puzzles sell particularly well in the regions.” For the managing director of the Pyhrn-Priel tourism association, Marie-Louise Schnur Pfeil, the Ravensburger puzzle from Schiederweiher is like “a gift from heaven” in terms of advertising value. Of course, the toy will now be included in the range of souvenir shops.
