A 16-year-old from Vienna went on a guided canyoning tour through the so-called Steinbachgraben with her school class during the three-day outdoor days. At a roughly two meter high rock step, which has to be mastered by jumping, one guide stood at the edge of the jump and the second a little below to take photos from there.
When it was the 16-year-old’s turn and she walked towards the edge of the jump, she slipped despite her special canyoning shoes and fell into the pool of water below. She suffered injuries to her right leg, which is why it was no longer possible to progress.
A guide and a teacher provided first aid and stayed with the injured person while the rest of the participants completed the route. The 16-year-old had to be roped up about 50 meters to a forest road by the mountain rescue team using a pulley system, where she was handed over to the rescue team and taken to the Bad Ischl hospital.
