Use until the morning hours: Linz’s main square underground car park flooded

Around 9 p.m., the Linz professional fire brigade was alerted that the entire garage on Linz’s main square was flooded. The water was about 70 centimeters high. Up to twelve firefighters were busy with the pumping work in the late evening hours on Tuesday, which was then reduced to six people during the night.

The voluntary fire brigade St. Magdalena also provided active support. “It’s very gratifying that you can rely on the voluntary fire brigades in such a situation,” emphasized operations manager Andreas Koch from the Linz professional fire brigade.

A total of eight pumps were installed in the garage overnight, two of which are still on site. The operation was temporarily ended at 6 a.m.

For the Linz professional fire brigade, this was not an isolated case: Last year, the main square garage was under water after heavy rain. Koch can only speculate about the reason for the susceptibility to flooding: “The water is probably being pushed into the garage via the sewer.”
