Help shape, have a say, join in: anyone who wants to do that has already come to the right place at innovation.linz.at. Around 6,400 users saw it the same way and took the opportunity in more than 7,800 interactions to participate in life in the city with ideas, comments and likes, to provide new impetus and to submit their own ideas.
Society’s changed information and communication behavior has now prompted those responsible to redesign and improve the platform for citizen participation. In addition to the visual renewal, the usability is more intuitive and there is more room for people to provide ideas than before. With more options and helpful additional functions, the community should be strengthened and networked even better with each other, says Kathrin Obernhumer, head of the Innovation Main Square in Linz, which opened three years ago.
As welcome as more opportunities for citizens to participate are fundamentally welcome, the Linz Greens still lack the service point for citizens’ initiatives that they demanded. “This is an urgently needed building block to improve the exchange between the city administration and committed Linzers and to make it more transparent,” says club chairman Helge Langer.
A service and coordination center with a fixed contact person would make it easier for initiatives to get information about their concerns, such as a specific construction project, and they could also get in touch better with the responsible authorities, Langer continued.
