ÖBAG pays out 766 million euros, Ofner new chairman of the supervisory board

He was elected on Wednesday afternoon at the Annual General Meeting and the subsequent constitutive meeting of the Supervisory Board and succeeds Helmut Kern. The dividend was also fixed at the AGM, which ÖBAG affiliated companies such as OMV, Telekom and Post, as well as the association, will pay to the state. There are 766 million euros for the previous year.

On July 8, 580 million euros, coming from the associated companies, will be transferred to the Ministry of Finance as the 100 percent owner of ÖBAG. Together with 186 million euros coming from the association, whose state shares are managed by ÖBAG, the republic will receive a total of more than three quarters of a billion euros. For 2020, the state holding had distributed 653 million in dividends. So there is an increase of almost a fifth (17 percent).

“A sustainable dividend is one of ÖBAG’s most important goals,” said ÖBAG CEO Edith Hlawati in a broadcast on Wednesday afternoon. “Stable dividends enable the republic to finance the diverse tasks of the state in different areas.” The amount of the dividend reflects the excellent performance of the companies even during the Corona turbulence.

With the 65-year-old doctor of law Ofner, the chairman of the aviation professional group in the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) is moving into ÖBAG as head of the supervisory board. Ofner is rooted in the ÖVP.

Since 1994 he has held management positions in listed and unlisted companies, giving him management experience in the energy, telecommunications and insurance sectors. Ofner is also active as a member of the supervisory board. He is the chairman of this body at Hypo NÖ and the welfare organization Burgenland, and deputy chairman at Austro Control and Wiener Städtische.

For Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), “Ofner has been doing excellent work as CEO of Flughafen Wien AG for years and is more than recognized. With his experience from numerous supervisory board functions, he will also lead ÖBAG into a strong future together with CEO Edith Hlawati.” The aim is to further secure and strengthen Austria as a business location.

Brunner thanked Kern for his work during a difficult phase. He ensured peace and stability. During Kern’s time, disclosures were made about the former ÖBAG board member Thomas Schmid, who had stumbled across compromising chats.
