The 30 allies affirmed, in their new Strategic Concept, the document that should guide NATO in the coming years, that “the declared ambitions and coercive policies of the People’s Republic of China challenge our interests, security and values“.

The Alliance maintains that China “employs a wide range of political, economic, and military tools to increase its global presence and project power, while maintaining opacity about its strategy, intentions, and military buildup.”

The document also states that the Asian giant “seeks to control key technological and industrial sectors, critical infrastructure and strategic materials and supply chains. Use your economic influence to create dependencies“.

Against the China-Russia alliance

NATO also accused China of working with Russia to undermine the international order. “The deepening of that strategic partnership and its attempts to undermine the international order are contrary to our values and interests,” she said.

The American President, Joe Bidenis trying to convince its allies that containing Moscow and Beijing are complementary goals, not conflicting ones.

These moves irritate China, which denounced “the cold war mentality“. “In recent years, NATO has pushed to expand its scope. The international community must remain vigilant,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said.
